Communicating in the Courtroom

Date: 05/12/2011

3 CLE Credits

As legal advocates for our clients, trial attorneys communicate with judges and jurors. The program will focus on what the trial attorney must communicate and how to effectively deliver the message. The principles and approaches will apply to the most sophisticated complex cases as well as the most basic cases.

True Merit to the Claim or Defense

Advocate: How should the legal advocate identify and communicate true merit to his or her clients legal position?

Court: The courts role in presiding during the disputed trial.

The Parties

Advocate: What can and should each trial attorney communicate about his or her client and adversary?

Court: The courts role in allowing relevant substance in and keeping irrelevant personalities out.

The Trial Attorney

Advocate: What should the trial attorney communicate about himself or herself with regard to competence, preparedness and honesty?

Court: The courts role in ensuring civility, order, and substance rather than form.
