BIAS AND GRIEVANCE? THE VIEW FROM THE BENCH

Details

Thursday, June 6, 2019| 6:00PM - 8:00PM

2 CLE Credits (1 Diversity, Inclusion, & Elimination of Bias & 1 Ethics & Professionalism)

This seminar has been approved for non-transitional credits.

We all know---or should know---what “bias” and “implicit bias” are, and as lawyers and judges we certainly know we should act in an unbiased way. The real question is, do we act in an unbiased way and what happens to us when we don’t?

This round table discussion for experienced attorneys will teach the tools to recognize and overcome implicit bias and prejudice. It will focus on the acts, both unwitting and purposeful, of lawyers and judges that have landed us in trouble in the courts, in our cases, and with the ethics committees, and exactly what punishment we can expect for this behavior.

NEW CLE CREDIT REQUIREMENT IMPLEMENTED:

DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, AND ELIMINATION OF BIAS

New York State CLE Board has created a new category of CLE credit effective January 1, 2018: Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias ("D&I"). Under the revised rules, at NYCRR  1500.22(a), the total number of required CLE credits does not change, but experienced attorneys registering on or after July 1, 2018 must complete at least one credit hour in this new category.
